Depression in Adolescents (C8902)

Autumn teaching
This module will cover topics including:
- the characteristics of depression in young people
- the broad range of potential causes of depression
- the evidence-base for the treatment of adolescent depression.
You may examine the historical models which have led to the development of specific treatments, such as the cognitive model of depression. You will also explore evaluate recent advances in the field. This could include approaches to diagnosis as well as the arrival of the Child and Young People’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP-IAPT) initiative.
By the end you should understand the complex developmental pathways and current treatment outcomes of depression in adolescence.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 22 hours of contact time and about 128 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
