Biography
Geoff Cloke went to Balliol College, Oxford as an undergraduate, and it was his Part II year there with Professor Malcolm Green FRS that stimulated his longstanding interests in metal vapour synthesis and organometallic sandwich complexes. He stayed on in Malcolm's group as a D.Phil. student, and was then awarded a Ramsay Memorial Research Fellowship at Balliol College in 1979. In 1981 he spent a year as a Postdoctoral Fellow at MIT with the 2005 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry Professor Dick Schrock , and then in 1983 moved to Sussex, initially as an EPSRC Advanced Fellow, where he was awarded a New Blood Lectureship in 1984. He was promoted to Reader in 1991, a Chair in 1995 and is currently Head of Chemistry at Sussex. He is a past recipient of the Royal Society of Chemistry's Sir Edward Frankland Fellowship (1988), Corday-Morgan Medal (1990), and Tilden Lectureship (1998). In 2012 he was awarded the Sir Geoffrey Wilkinson Award by the the Royal Society of Chemistry ,which is given for for outstanding contributions to pure or applied research in the field of organometallic chemistry. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) in 2007.
