One to One consultations with Library Research Support 

The Library Research Support team offer bespoke one to one resource awareness sessions. Many researchers take advantage of these valuable sessions to discover the best resources for their research area.

Support using archives with The Keep

The Special Collections team based at  also offer one to one or small group sessions for researchers who would like support using archives.

Study space for researchers at the Research Hive

The Research Hive is a space on the top floor of the Library for researchers from all disciplines to work. There are also two bookable meeting rooms. Each year three Hive Scholars are appointed to work on developing the Hive and organising peer led events for postgraduate researchers (PGRs).

IT Services Research Support Team

The Research Support Team in IT Services provides technical advice to researchers based at Sussex and operates a high performance system suitable for dealing with research data.

IT Services training courses

 A range of practical IT training courses are available to all staff and students, enabling researchers to use technology with confidence and expertise.

Excursions - online journal run by Sussex PGRs

is an online interdisciplinary peer-reviewed journal, run by PGRs at Sussex. There are opportunities to join the editorial team and develop skills in editing, peer-review, and team-working.

Academic development workshops - for international PGRs

The Sussex Centre for Language Studies runs a range of academic development workshops for international students. The workshops cover topics such as referencing, giving presentations, structured writing, and critical thinking. A one-to-one tutorial service running throughout the year is available to PGRs, and is often used for gaining advice on written work.

One to One with a Writing Fellow

PGRs can receive help with improving writing skills by making an appointment with one of the Royal Literary Fund (RLF) Writing Fellows in residence at Sussex. RLF Writing Fellows are professional writers with whom students can discuss all aspects of their writing. The sessions are free, confidential, and independent of the University.

StartUp Sussex Entrepreneurship 

The manages and delivers the annual StartUp Sussex competition for enterprising Sussex students and graduates. The programme is designed to help develop entrepreneurial skills and ultimately provide three winners with valuable start-up funding.

Research Staff Training and Development

Research Staff can also access the training and development events organised by the Research Staff Office.

The  programme is led by the Careers Research and Advisory Centre (CRAC), a not-for-profit registered UK charity dedicated to active career learning and development. The website provides useful resources to support your development as a researcher. Sussex is a member of Vitae, so by registering with your Sussex email address you can access the full content.

National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM)

The (NCRM) forms part of the Economic and Social Research Council's (ESRC) strategy to improve the standards of research methods across the UK social science community. The NCRM offer a range of national research methods .

The Brilliant Club

is an award-winning charity that recruits, trains and employs outstanding PGRs and early career researchers (ECRs)  to deliver programmes of university-style tutorials to small groups of high performing pupils in schools that serve communities with a traditionally low participation rate in higher education. Working in partnership with the Brilliant Club, the Researcher Development Programme organises and hosts information events about the scheme throughout the year.

Researchers in Schools

(RIS) is a teacher training programme which recruits, trains and places PGRs and ECRs  from all subject backgrounds to teach in non-selective state schools across the UK. RIS also enables trainees to maintain an academic profile by providing time and financial support for research projects, writing, publication and attendance at conferences.

Society for Research into Higher Education

The (SRHE) lead a professional development programme for new researchers covering topics such as publishing academic articles, preparing for your viva, analysing qualitative data and undertaking a literature review. Student membership is available and entitles you to free attendance at SRHE events.

GRADnet

The (GRADnet) brings together the research strengths of nine leading university physics departments that make up the SEPnet consortium in the South East of England to create the largest physics postgraduate school in England. The graduate school provides a wide range of postgraduate training opportunities.

Santander Universities Enterprise Portal
